Philadelphia International Airport installs PayPass for parking

Philadelphia Parking Authority’s parking facilities at Philadelphia International Airport have begun accepting MasterCard PayPass contactless payments. The system was provided by Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), whose previous contactless payment installations include Norfolk and Miami airports.

In Philadelphia, PayPass will be installed in 34 vehicular exit lanes that serve the airport’s approximately 18,600 parking spaces. Drivers need only waive their cards in front of the reader to pay, cutting time spent waiting in line at the exit. [end] 

In an effort to streamline passenger security, Jakarta, Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport has opened the country’s first biometric immigration gate.

Fingerprint biometric identification provider BIO-key International, Inc. and Oakwell Engineering Limited partnered to create the new gate, designed for use by passengers with electronic passports. Passengers submit their e-passports and authenticate with a fingerprint.

The Canadian Parking Association has announced that the city of Ottowa, Canada is planning to upgrade its parking meters with NFC technology.

Starting early 2012, drivers will be able to pay for their parking fees with just a tap of an NFC enabled handset against the meter. The new system will also allow users to refresh their parking time via phone or Internet, rather than having to dash out to the meter.
