ING, MasterCard partner in Romanian NFC trial

Dutch bank ING and MasterCard plan to test the viability of NFC in Romania that will allow customers to use their handsets to pay for low value purchases. Some 500 bank customers will be issued Nokia 6212 NFC-capable phones in the six-month pilot. They will then be able to tap their phones against contactless terminals at 30 Bucharest merchants.

Besides payments, participants will also be able to top up their PayPass account balance over the air to their phone with a special code and check their balance.
