Government agencies look for other ways to use smart cards

Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in News

With issuance of new government-mandated smart cards, the agencies using the cards are looking for other ways to use them besides only logical security and identification. Many agencies are looking to use the new cards to secure their networks, which will also allow workers to log on to a different agencies’ network and access their own network because they trust the credential from the card. This would allow two people to work on one project together, even if they are at opposite ends of the country. Since each governmental agency has different needs, their can not be one government-wide plan of implementation. According to FCW.com, each agency needs to implement the smart cards in a way that will most benefit their agency.
