Dutch Supreme Court goes with biometric security for password replacement

Friday, April 15, 2005 in News

Svetko, BioXS, and Saflink announced that the Dutch Supreme Court has selected its joint biometric security solution to defend against data and identity theft. Dutch biometric consultant BioXS is working with the high court to enroll 270 users into the solution, preventing unauthorized network access by replacing usernames and passwords with a fast and simple fingerprint scan. “Privacy and security are critical in any courtroom, and the Dutch Supreme Court is implementing a state-of-the-art system to ensure integrity for every case that passes through its doors” said Zavi Cohen, CEO of Zvetco Biometrics.

The combined package being implemented for the Dutch Supreme Court ensures that only authorized users are provided access to critical court information. The solution includes private label version units of Zvetco Biometrics’ Verifi(TM) fingerprint readers using TruePrint(R) technology and industry-leading SAFsolution(TM) biometric software from SAFLINK. The system integrates with a Single Sign-On (SSO) system, providing added convenience and security to users by allowing them to sign onto the network once for secure access and use of multiple applications.

“This new biometrics solution provides the ease-of-use that non-IT personnel need to work effectively and efficiently, and eliminates problems with the old ‘token-based’ access solution where tokens were routinely forgotten or misplaced,” said General Manager Reinier van der Drift of BioXS. “With the new system, access is always at the user’s fingertip, literally. In addition to providing the strongest authentication that a user is who they claim to be, the solution manages passwords for instant access to applications, Web sites and other resources that call for complex password security.”

“We are pleased to be a part of this high value and high visibility deployment with the Dutch Supreme Court. This kind of high assurance protection is a powerful validation of the solution protecting people and information,” said Tim Wudi, chief marketing officer of SAFLINK. [end]
