Philips Readies Gen 2

Royal Philips Electronics has produced and tested its first engineering samples of a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that meets the Electronic Product Code (EPC) Class Generation 2 standard. Philips has created a task force of partner companies to develop an end-to-end solution around its UCODE EPC G2 chips. Members include ASK, Checkpoint, Deister Electronic, Feig, Intermec Technologies, Omron, SAMSys, Thingmagic, UPM Rafsec and X-Ident. Metro Group will also evaluate the technology when available. Philips expects solutions to be available by the third quarter of this year.”
