Former Inside Contactless leader forms TWINLINX for NFC and RFID

“I believe that the real value of RFID will be realized when tags remain on items, which will allow to create new services and benefits for consumers.” Someone has the intestinal fortitude to say it? … RFID beyond logistics and into the household? Jacek Kowalski, former CEO of Inside Contactless, describes this as a goal of his new venture TWINLINX, a company formed to marry RFID and NFC in a variety of applications.

TWINLINX: A new venture created with the aim of bringing NFC (Near field Communications) technology into our every day lives.

Aix en Provence, 9th December 2006 - Jacek Kowalski, founder and former CEO of Inside Contactless, announced today the creation of his new company: TWINLINX.

Based on Jacek’s and co-founder Steve Lewis’s experience from Inside Contactless, TWINLINX was founded to focus on the development of solutions for electronic identification applications using the latest NFC-enabled mobile phones and PDA’s. The company will develop a new generation of RFID chips based on a technology license from Inside and a family of low cost readers. In addition, Twinlinx will provide software platforms resulting in a global hardware/software offer designed to facilitate the easy development and proliferation of NFC applications.

Jacek Kowalski, CEO of the newly formed company stated: “I have been committed for the last 12 years to contactless technology and market development and have a clear vision and understanding of the market needs. I am convinced that NFC will become a global technology integrated into mobile phones, enabling the creation of many new and attractive opportunities for consumer oriented applications using RFID tags attached to objects.¨

Jacek adds: “Today RFID tags are not being used to their full potential by just replacing barcode functionality and are being discarded too early in the product lifetime. I believe that the real value of RFID will be realized when tags remain on items, which will allow to create new services and benefits for consumers. In order for this to happen, consumers will need to have a low cost and global RFID reader infrastructure which does not exist today and will be provided by the integration of NFC into mobile phones. Our uniqueness comes from offering chip technology which enables the same RFID tag to satisfy both the needs of the logistics supply chain and those of the consumer using NFC phones. In doing so we will be able to add value to the tag and justify the large deployment of RFID chips.¨
