The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), the state run bus service in Maharashtra, India, has adopted a smart card ticketing system to replace its existing paper passes for transit buses.
MSRTC has 29,000 machines in its buses issuing electronic tickets and scanning traveler’s smart cards. “Paper passes that are being used often get soiled or misused by commuters, but smart cards will ensure that passengers do not face these problems,” said Deepak Kapoor, MSRTC managing director.
