Laks has announced the commercial launch of its watch2pay contactless-enabled wristwatch in the UK.

Equipped with MasterCard’s PayPass technology, the watch can be used to make contactless purchases of up to £15 in more than 70,000 UK retailers now accepting PayPass payments.

Watch2pay comes with a MasterCard prepaid “watch card,” resembling a SIM card in size and shape, that is inserted into a slot on the side of the watch to enable payments. The card, which is valid for up to two-years, can be loaded with credit online via the user’s Kalixa eAccount.

The watch also comes with a standard size prepaid MasterCard contactless card featuring the Watch2pay logo.

The device is now available through the Watch2pay website for £99.

MasterCard certifies multiple NFC handsets

MasterCard has certified a slew of NFC-enabled smart phones for use with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology.

Newly certified devices include: BlackBerry Bold 9790, BlackBerry Curve 9380, HTC One X, Intel Smartphone Reference Device, LG Viper 4G LTE, LG Optimus Elite, Nokia 603, Nokia Lumia 610 NFC, Samsung Wave Y, Samsung Galaxy mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S Advance, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GT-i9250), Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia sola.

MasterCard Advisors announced the results of the MasterCard Advisors PayPass Adoption Study, providing a quantitative analysis of the changes in U.S. account transaction behavior after adopting a contactless payments solution.

Identive's tomPAY sticker turns any mobile phone into a contactless payment device

Identive Group announced tomPAY, an NFC-enabled sticker tag that can be affixed to existing mobile phones to enable contactless payments.

Based on Identive’s tom (tag on metal) smart inlay technology, tomPAY is manufactured using the same processes as an ISO PVC card. When placed on a phone, tomPAY enables contactless mobile payments in compliance with MasterCard PayPass specifications, as well as loyalty, transport ticketing and other m-commerce services.

Azerbaijan excited for new contactless and mobile payments

MasterCard’s PayPass contactless payment feature may soon be presented to the Azerbaijan market of cashless payments.

According to a recent MasterCard study, 75% of the local residents said they would like to use contactless payment cards in supermarkets and 60% to pay public transport fare. When asked which devices, in addition to a plastic card, it would be convenient to make payments, 86% of respondents said they would like to use their mobile phone.
