FIME expands GlobalPlatform test tool, earns certification for lab in Asia

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

FIME has announced that its GlobalPlatform certified test tool is equipped to validate the compliance of secure chips to the new GlobalPlatform Basic Financial Configuration for the banking sector.

FIME, which is already qualified to run compliance tests with GlobalPlatform UICC Configuration for the mobile sector, is the first full service testing facility to receive GlobalPlatform certification for validating a card’s compliance to the GlobalPlatform Basic Financial Configuration. According to FIME, bank card manufacturers can now purchase and use the tool independently to test a product’s adherence to GlobalPlatform’s specifications prior to official certification.

FIME has also announced that its Asian laboratory has also been approved by GlobalPlatform to certify products, making FIME the first company to offer GlobalPlatform evaluation facilities in both Europe and Asia.

GlobalPlatform – the organization that standardizes the management of applications on secure chip technology – launched its compliance program in early 2011 to increase market confidence and encourage stability within the secure chip ecosystem. It has created this new element to its compliance program to confirm that a card product operates within the payment landscape as agreed and expected by the industry.

According to FIME, meeting GlobalPlatform specifications will deliver long-term market interoperability, which is important as more and more applications reside on a single secure chip. [end]

GlobalPlatform launched its latest specifications for the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).

The organization has released two new specifications primarily for use by software developers working within the TEE space. The “TEE Systems Architecture v1.0” explains the hardware and software architectures behind the TEE, while the “TEE Internal API Specification v1.0” specifies how to develop trusted applications.
