Visa has announced that 43 Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) Green Parking lots have adopted Visa payWave contactless payments.

The new system enables drivers to pay for parking by simply passing their payWave card near the contactless terminal to ‘check in’ to the parking lot, and once again when exiting to complete the transaction. Once the receipt is printed, the driver is free to exit.

TPA has also added contactless terminals to its Zeag pay on foot pay stations, so drivers who take a ticket when entering a lot can use payWave to pay for their parking at these stations before they return to their cars and depart.

According to Visa, the 43 Green P lots comprise some 11,600 parking spaces throughout the city of Toronto.

Visa payWave transactions employ EMV chip technology, which uses a standard 128-bit encryption technology, to securely store and encrypt confidential information. When a customer uses a payWave terminal, the card and the terminal reader exchange security information and the transaction is completed, all in less than one-third of a second, according to Visa.

Oakland adds NFC to city parking meters

Parkmobile USA has announced that its mobile payments solution is now available on all parking meters throughout Oakland, Calif.

Oakland drivers can now pay for parking with their mobile phone using the Parkmobile app on iPhone, Android, Windows 7, and Blackberry smart phones anywhere in the city. Users can also pay for parking by tapping their NFC phone against a Parkmobile NFC-enabled sticker on the meter.

First Data brings contactless parking meters to Poland

First Data Corporation has partnered up with the Krakow Transportation and Infrastructure Authority and City Parking Group for the introduction of parking meters equipped with contactless payments functionality in the city of Krakow, Poland.

PayByPhone delivers UK's first NFC parking solution

The city of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, England has partnered with PayByPhone to introduce the UK’s first NFC-enabled parking payment solution.

Installed this past weekend, the new system enables drivers in all of Tumbridge Wells’ 15 council-run parking lots to pay for their parking fees with a tap of an NFC-enabled Android or BlackBerry phone equipped with the PayByPhone app.

Ottawa adopts NFC parking payments from PayByPhone

PayByPhone has announced that the city of Ottawa is now offering an NFC payments option on parking meters.

According to PayByPhone, every Pay & Display machine in Ottawa has been outfitted with an NFC-enabled PayByPhone sticker, which users can tap with an NFC phone to set up and pay for parking time.
