Fibank, Tieto debut contactless payments in Bulgaria

First Investment Bank, one of the largest banks in Bulgaria, is teaming up with Finnish IT company Tieto to bring contactless card payment solutions to the Bulgarian market.

According to Tieto, the contactless card solution is designed to increases merchants’ business performance by offering their customers a ‘flexible and fast’ new way of paying - i.e., tapping a card against the reader rather than swipe it.

First Investment Bank currently has 21 branches serving 380,000 clients in Bulgaria, as well as other branches in Albania, Macedonia and Cyprus. [end] 

HSBC announced that it will begin the conversion to contactless technology this month, replacing all customer banking debit cards, according to ThinkMoney.com.

The bank will start to roll out the new contactless cards to existing customers whose debit cards are due to expire this month and then continue the process as cards expire. Customers who don’t want a contactless card can opt out by contacting their bank before their current card expires.
