Multicard helps elderly ride free in Netherlands

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Multicard has announced it will provide the Municipality of Enschede, The Netherlands with a solution to manage the community’s free bus transport service for older residents.

Multicard’s solution encompasses participant enrollment, the issuance of special passes for the service, management of the database of participants, and the design and management of a Web portal that allows the city to monitor the process and flow of the project.

Enschede residents age 70 and older can use the passes on the city’s bus system to visit friends and relatives, do errands and take advantage of community facilities free of charge.

According to Multicard, the service is the product of an agreement between the Municipality of Enschede and the Dutch transportation operator Connexxion.

Hennie Otto, Connexxion’s project manager for the free transportation service, reports that 90% of currently eligible residents are expected to participate in the system. So far, Multicard has mailed out approximately 11,000 of the special passes. [end]
