Toppan Forms, HP Japan partner to expand contactless payments

Toppan Forms and Hewlett-Packard Japan have announced a partnership to help improve the contactless payments infrastructure in Japan and lower the costs for merchants and businesses to offer e-money services.

Toppan Forms will supply its system equipment development technology for contactless smart cards and HP Japan will offer its IC Chip Access Server for FeliCa in order to create a cloud service that will make it possible for businesses to introduce contactless payments without having to make heavy upfront investments, according to the partners.


Toppan Forms will further contribute by “developing payment terminal based on NFC reader writer through partnership with electronic device manufacturers” and “providing acquisition service to cultivate and manage merchants through partnership with payment companies,” the company said in a release.

Right now the partners say they are focusing on e-money payment service based on FeliCa smart cards, which they plan to roll out in October. In the future, the partners expect to form a coalition with Regional Cards and Payments Utility, a credit payment platform service with 68 million card members across 22 countries.

According to Toppan Forms, the partners have already secured Nanaco, one of Japan’s largest e-money providers, as the first user of the service. [end] 

Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE has partnered with Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, to offer a new SIM-based NFC mobile device for the Turkish market.

The Turkcell T11 handset (aka the ZTE Racer II) can be used to pay for both highway toll payments and items at the point of sale with a simple tap against a contactless reader.
