Singapore taxis adopt contactless payments

Monday, June 27, 2011

Singapore-based taxi operator ComfortDelgro is introducing contactless payments throughout its fleet of 15,600 taxis, reports channelnewasia.com.

The new system will allow passengers to pay by tapping their contactess debit or credit card against a touchscreen in the back of the cab, meaning the card will never have to be handed over to the driver.

The system will begin accepting ez-link and EPINS payments in July 2011, with all cashless payment systems in ComfortDelGro taxis upgraded by the end of the year.

The roll out is expected to cost around S$5 million, says channelnewsasia.com.
