ACS names Steve Frazzini VP of open fare payment

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Xerox’s Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), is moving forward with plans to enter the public transit sector with the hire of Steve Frazzini as vice president of fare payment solutions.

A former vice president for Automated Fare Collection and MetroCard Operations for the MTA in New York City, Frazzini has worked for 25 years in public transit, contributing to the development of New York City’s MetroCard Program. According to ACS, the program accounts for $3 billion of fare media sold annually, with 70 percent of revenue capture through the acceptance of credit and debit cards.

Frazzini was also responsible for public transit’s first ever “open payment” pilot program in 2006, the first ever regional open payment in 2010 and the expansion of the current MetroCard program to several of the MTA’s regional affiliates.

Serving as a steering committee member for both the New York/New Jersey Regional Strategic Alliance as well as the MTA New Fare Payment System Initiative, Frazzini also managed the recently completed New York-New Jersey Transit Trial of a contactless, open-standard payment approach. [end]

Since joining the OSPT Alliance, austriamicrosystems will have access to the CIPURSE open standard specification, leveraging its experience into embedded systems for mobile fare collection applications. The open standard promotes vendor neutrality and cross-vendor system interoperability with reduced technology adoption risks, higher quality and improved market responsiveness.
