Singapore launches contactless card for tourists

Singapore’s CITY Tours has introduced a new contactless smart card that allows tourists to tap into various city attractions, according to asiaone.com.

In addition to speeding up lines, the card also gives visitors up to a 45% discount at popular attractions such as Underwater World and the Singapore Zoo.


According to asiaone.com, the card is similar to Singapore’s EZ-Link contactless smart card, which functions as both a pass for public transportation and a payment card at certain retail locations.

UK-regional bus group Bluestar has launched a new transit card for discounted weekly and monthly travel on its network, according to Southern Daily Echo.

The new card enables cashless fare for any service on the Bluestar Network in Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester. It also supports travel on Wilts & Dorset buses and Southern Vectis on the Isle of Wight, both of which are owned and operated by Go-Ahead Group.

Superdrug, one of Britain’s largest beauty and health retailers, has introduced contactless payment for its in-store customers, according to Retail Gazette.

Created by Streamline and Visa Europe, the contactless system will enable customers to make payments of up to £15 (approx. USD $23) by simply waving their contactless bank card at the more than 50 participating Superdrug stores in London and Liverpool.

A new survey from Euro Kartensysteme shows that Germans are starting to embrace the idea of contactless and NFC payments.

Out of 1,040 Germans aged 18-59, 43% responded that they would like to make contactless payments if given the opportunity, of which 58% percent would make their payments with a debit card card, 41% with a credit card and 50% with an NFC phone.
