UK Coffee chain to adopt contactless payment from Barclaycard

AMT Coffee is partnering with Barclaycard to rollout contactless payment terminals nationwide, according to computerworlduk.com.

The technology allows customers to pay for purchases of £15 or less without having to provide a signature or enter a PIN.


AMT Coffee’s shops are located primarily in airports and railway stations, making them optimal venues for speedy tap & go style payment, says AMT COO John Hassall.

Australia’s ANZ has completed a pilot of a mobile phone app that allows small business to accept contactless credit card payments, according to itnews.com.au.

The ePOS Mobile app is the first of its kind to be trialed by a major bank in Australia, and its only competition appears to be an independent app created by freelance web designer Michael Dimoudis called iCCPay, which has so far seen 75 downloads without the support of banks or payment processors.

NFC may get the breakthrough it needs with upcoming city transit projects and a new line of Nokia phones, according to Network World.

Just last week, Nokia announced that next year’s batch of Symbian mobile phones will contain NFC technology. ABI Research says this move will spark growth in the number of NFC chipset vendors, ultimately resulting in lower costs for phone vendors due to boosted competition.
