PMU taps Monext to operate contactless gambling system

Thursday, June 24, 2010

The PMU, France’s state controlled betting organization, has hired Monext to manage all aspects of its recently implemented contactless “private label” card.

The PMU Card, introduced in May at 10,500 of PMU’s sales outlets, allows users to place cashless bets via mobile phone, online or at a sales outlet. Customers may place their bets and manage their account by passing their card over the contactless reader integrated in a self-service cardholder activated terminal or point-of-sales terminal at the sales counter in their local PMU outlet.

The cards also enable users to consult their account balance and their most recent transactions, top up their account by credit or debit card and collect their winnings via bank transfer.

The PMU’s goal is to sign up 300,000 clients to this card program by the end of the year.

In the framework of this project, all payment platform operations have been entrusted to Monext, from the provision of cards to card personalization and customer identification and authentication. Monext will also provide the PMU Customer Service department with a platform enabling them to manage the customer’s entire card life cycle (blocking a card, card renewal, closing an account, and so on). [end]

On Track Innovations has received a U.S. patent for adding contactless capability to existing mobile handsets through contactless SIM technology.

U.S. Patent No. 8,090,407, aka “Contactless Smart SIM,” covers the capabilities necessary to turn existing mobile handsets into NFC-enabled devices through the use of a SIM card and a specifically designed antenna, all while keeping the phone and operating system “fully agnostic,” says OTI.
