Mark Allen, marketing manager at Kaba, discusses the advantages of the company’s wireless locks for physical access control. “It’s the ability to give the customer the same functionality you have in an online system without having to run any wires to the door saving time and money and giving the end user the same functionality,” Allen says.

These installations typically involve one wired door at the front door of a facility that writes the credential to a contactless smart card that enables access through the rest of the facility. “Then when they visit a standalone door it just reads the card and determines whether they get access or not,” Allen says. “At the same time when the card is presented audit logs are written on the card and the audit logs are written to the system. If you have a door ajar or a forced door all that information can be picked up and brought back into the system.”
