Citi unveils PayPass stickers

Friday, June 18, 2010

MasterCard PayPass stickers, now available for Citi credit cards can be affixed to the back of any mobile device and used to make contactless payments at merchants that accept PayPass transactions.

Citi’s contactless MasterCard PayPass sticker is supplied by Oberthur Technologies. In early summer, Citi will roll out a PayPass locator app that searches and maps the nearest PayPass merchants. The plan is to also release location-based services that would enable consumers to find deals close to them.

Paul Galant, CEO of Citi Cards, says the system will allow customers to continue to receive benefits that come with using a credit card – earning miles, cash back or rewards points for purchases.

“Our customers are busy, often using their phone for everything from finding a good restaurant to searching for a new washing machine. We want to be there for our customers, providing information, payment options, products and services, wherever and however they choose.” [end]

MasterCard and mFoundry have announced a partnership to enable more banks and credit unions around the world to offer customers contactless mobile payments.

The collaboration will combine MasterCard’s PayPass technology with mFoundry’s mobile financial services platform, which is used by more than 560 U.S. banks and credit unions. The resulting service will allow customers to make payments by simply tapping their NFC-enabled phone on any PayPass terminal at a merchant check-out.
