Las Vegas airport adopts contactless payment for parking

Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, the seventh-busiest airport in North America, is now accepting MasterCard PayPass contactless payments in its major parking lots.

Travelers can now pay for parking with a simple tap of their MasterCard PayPass contactless cards or devices at special terminals situated in exit lanes.


The new system, which also accepts traditional mag-stripe cards, will be implemented in 64 locations, including 31 pay stations and 33 entry/exit lanes at the airport’s four main parking lots. [end] 

PayByPhone has announced that its NFC-enabled mobile payment system for parking has been selected by The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA).

According to PayByPhone, all of San Francisco’s 30,800 parking spaces will be outfitted with the company’s NFC stickers, giving drivers the option to pay for parking with NFC-enabled mobile phones in addition to mobile apps and mobile web for regular phones.

Blackpool, a seaside town situated along England’s west coast, has installed a number of Parkeon contactless-enabled parking pay stations.

For the installation, Blackpool Council opted for the Parkeon Strada pay station terminal. This new, solar-powered terminal is equipped with contactless card readers, accepting contactless payment-enabled mobile phones and various wave and pay bank cards.

A new survey from Euro Kartensysteme shows that Germans are starting to embrace the idea of contactless and NFC payments.

Out of 1,040 Germans aged 18-59, 43% responded that they would like to make contactless payments if given the opportunity, of which 58% percent would make their payments with a debit card card, 41% with a credit card and 50% with an NFC phone.
