ANZ concludes pilot of ePOS mobile payments app

Friday, April 16, 2010

Australia’s ANZ has completed a pilot of a mobile phone app that allows small business to accept contactless credit card payments, according to itnews.com.au.

The ePOS Mobile app is the first of its kind to be trialed by a major bank in Australia, and its only competition appears to be an independent app created by freelance web designer Michael Dimoudis called iCCPay, which has so far seen 75 downloads without the support of banks or payment processors.

The ePOS app will be offered to ANZ business customers for free, unlike iCCPay which costs $43.99.

Additionally, iCCPay requires clients to provide signatures, while ePOS does not.

A spokesperson for Fisher and Paykel, one of the participating retailers in the pilot, said ePOS was well received by customers and preferred by staff, namely because it removed the need to print receipts, as they were automatically emailed to the customer.

ANZ hopes to have the ePOS Mobile app available in the iPhone App Store by mid-year.
