Transport for London buys rights to Oyster for £1m

Transport for London (TfL), the body of local government responsible for public transportation in Greater London, has bought the rights to the Oyster Card brand for £1m from TranSys, according to BBC News.

Rumor has it that TfL has already begun trials on using Oyster on bank cards and mobile phones.

Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London’s transport adviser, said: ”Oyster has the potential to be used for so much more than simply getting around the capital, and the technology is there to make it even more convenient for Londoners to use by integrating it into mobile phones or bank cards.”

After TranSys’s contract runs out in August, Cubic Transportation Systems and HP Enterprise Services will be in charge of running the service for the next five years.
