Dublin delays smart transit cards to 2011

Dubliners will have to wait until the end of next year before smart cards are available for use on buses, the Luas and trains, according to The Irish Independent.

Transit authorities first promised the city smart cards nearly a decade before, and cumulative cost of delays has reached a staggering €55 million.


The integrated ticketing board has begun the first phase of computer testing in preparation for a pilot scheme scheduled for later on in the year.

Still, commuters will have to wait until 2011 before all companies, including Iarnrod Eireann commuter trains and DARTs, Dublin Bus, Luas and private operators, come together under the system.
