Smart cards breached at German airport?

At the Hamburg Airport in Germany, the Chaos Computer Club was able to remotely scan the contactless smart cards and gain access to restricted areas, according to a report on Deutsche Welle.com. German broadcaster ARD aired the report.

The researchers reportedly were able to gain entry to the airside area without detection. An airport spokeswoman told AD that employees are required to show their ID and go through a security inspection before entering the restricted areas.

The Chaos Computer Club claims to have hacked the Legic Prime entry system using a device that covertly read the identification cards of airport personnel and saves the data. According to the show the system is used by Hamburg, Berlin-Tegel, Stuttgart, Dresden and Hannover airports.

German government officials were reportedly reviewing the security systems.

Sparkasse issues 1.3 million contactless bank cards

German bank, Sparkasse will pilot contactless payments for its bank credit card users, reports Venture Village.

Locations in Hannover, Braunschweig and Wolfsburg will be some of the first for the trial, which begins in April. More than 1.3 million customers will receive the new bank cards complete with contactless functionality.
