HID releases Dutch-compliant smart card reader

Thursday, January 7, 2010

HID Global announced the launch of its Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS smart card reader designed for Dutch government agencies adopting MIFARE DESFire EV1 smart card technology.

Featuring DESFire EV1 technology and Advanced Encryption Standard to protect data transfer between the credential and reader as required by the Rijkspas specification, the reader enables government entities to utilize their existing card population while migrating to the new Dutch Rijkspas.

Offering a range of mounting methods and accessories with support of both MIFARE Classic and HID Prox, the reader is capable of reading legacy cards and the new Rijkspas cards. The new reader is built on HID’s iCLASS architecture and enables numerous output configurations to address migration challenges.

Field upgradeable using reader firmware cards, Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers have the option to be re-configured to support additional or substitute applications including traditional iCLASS credentials. Additionally, configuration cards can change the various reader behaviors, including beeper/LED operation and custom MIFARE Classic configurations. [end]

GAO RFID has released a Wiegand-to-Ethernet RFID controller designed specifically for door access applications.

The network access controller, model 491018, is able to connect to any type of Wiegand reader such as magnetic stripe reader, RFID reader or fingerprint reader.
