Cubic Transportation Systems India, subsidiary of Cubic Corporation, is launching a five-month trial of its smart card-based fare collection technology aboard buses in Delhi.
Cubic began the smart card pilot in November as part of the Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS), a joint initiative of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and the Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) aimed at revamping the transportation infrastructure in the nation’s capital region.
For the pilot, Cubic is issuing approximately 5,000 smart cards to passengers riding on one of the many bus routes operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation. The cards will be processed by Cubic’s Driver Control Unit, an on-bus processing platform that integrates automatic fare collection, GPS-based vehicle tracking, passenger counting and security.
The Cubic system piloted in Delhi is based on the same contactless RFID technology that Cubic has implemented in major transport systems around the world including London, Washington D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, San Francisco and Brisbane, Australia. ![[end]](/resources/bullet/contactlessnews-4.gif)
