Gemalto invests in bank card personalization

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Gemalto has subscribed to a capital increase in Serverside Group, a company with offices in the U.S. and UK that makes it easy for banks to personalize cards. The agreement provides Gemalto with an option to potentially acquire Serverside at a later date. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Serverside’s software-as-a-service platform, AllAboutMe, enables custom images and designs to be uploaded via a website and then processed by participating banks. Serverside technology also enables small associations, groups or companies to compose their own co-branded cards.

“This new acquisition expands our software and services offering in the banking and loyalty arena,” said Gemalto CEO Olivier Piou. “In addition, we will be able to leverage the Serverside platform in our identity and access management service business, towards custom services to enterprises in particular.”

“We have built a strong international presence and a scalable business model. Gemalto’s investment provides us with growth capital to aggressively develop both our technology and market share,” said Adam Elgar, Serverside’s CEO. [end]

Barnes International announced that its updated Visa GPR Test module now complies with the latest version of Visa’s Global Personalization Requirements.

The updated test tool will offer evaluation of a chip product to ensure it meets industry and payment scheme certification standards. This reduces a product’s time to market as the chip is aligned to Visa Specifications throughout the development life cycle and before applying for official Visa approval.
