DigiCore selects OTI's contactless reader for South African transportation system

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

DigiCore, a South African provider of GPS fleet management, vehicle tracking and EMV-based fare management solutions, has chosen to integrate a contactless reader from On Track Innovations with its fare validators. OTI has received the first order to supply 4,000 smart card readers, together with a commitment for further orders as the project develops.

DigiCore’s new fare system, built on its C-track system, uses OTI’s Saturn 6500 reader to reduce cash handling by the driver. Reloadable, EMV compliant pre-paid cards will be issued to commuters to enable contactless transactions in accordance with the requirements of the contactless payment scheme of the South African National Department of Transport. [end]

“One of the major challenges facing transit agencies today is how to capitalize on the ever-growing popularity of mobile phones with a solid mobile strategy,” said Transportation Council Chairman Craig Roberts. “This white paper builds on the knowledge base developed in earlier white papers to foster a greater understanding of NFC technology, explain its role in the transit industry, and shed light on key issues facing the transit industry in developing a mobile strategy.”
