MasterCard rolls out new EMV, PayPass cards in Japan

MasterCard Worldwide in collaboration with Toshiba Corp. and Dai Nippon Printing, announced the launch of a dual-interface card equipped for contactless MasterCard PayPass and contact EMV payment applications in Japan.

The card offers MasterCard’s M/Chip 2.1 EMV technology for contact applications, such as ATMs, and PayPass M/Chip Flex technology based on the global ISO/IEC14443 Type A standard for contactless applications, such as small, cashless payments. Companies in Japan that are issuing EMV cards now can offer customers MasterCard PayPass. [end] 

DeviceFidelity and SpringCard have unveiled moneto, a multiplatform mobile wallet solution for iPhone and Android users.

Much like DeviceFidelity’s In2Pay solution, moneto relies on a protective iPhone case equipped with an NFC-enabled microSD card. The moneto mobile wallet is powered by MasterCard PayPass technology and linked to a reloadable MasterCard prepaid card to enable contactless mobile purchases wherever PayPass is accepted.

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has announced the launch of its Cep-T Cüzdan NFC mobile wallet application on BlackBerry Bold 9900 smart phones.

Turkcell subscribers with NFC-enabled Bold 9900s can now use the mobile wallet service to make contactless payments at any MasterCard PayPass-enabled point of sale across Turkey, as well as abroad.

MasterCard Australia has announced that more than 1 million contactless PayPass transactions were recorded during the month of August.

According to Insider Retailing, this marks the first time that PayPass “Tap and Go” payments have surpassed the 1 million transaction milestone since the technology was introduced in Australia several years ago, indicating growing acceptance of contactless payments.

The UK’s YESpay International and YES-wallet.com have teamed up to build an NFC-enabled cloud-based mobile payments platform.

By integrating the YES-wallet Pouch digital wallet with YESpay EMBOSS payment service, the companies will provide a platform that encompasses e-Money, pre-paid and gift-card payments based on Visa PayWave and MasterCard PayPass contactless standards.
