VeriFone announces plug-and-play contactless product

Monday, May 18, 2009

VeriFone Holdings Inc. has announced a plug-and-play solution for adding contactless card payment acceptance to existing POS devices, electronic cash registers and PCs. The QX1000 is based on an architecture that utilizes a single contactless interface.

The QX1000 is suited to EMV and mag-stripe contactless cards from Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express, as well as non-payment applications such as MiFare. Installation involves quick connections via factory-installed USB or serial options.

Fully compatible with industry interfaces, VeriFone’s SingleCI enables acquirers to leverage their existing investments in contactless platforms. In addition, it future-proofs new investments by providing development tools that enable acquirers to add new features and applications, and adapt to future technologies, such as Near-Field Communications (NFC).

Retailers, from quick service restaurants and petro stations to retail stores, parking garages, movie theaters and sports arenas, could utilize QX1000’s “touch and go” design with its high-speed processor that can keep checkout lanes moving. [end]

VeriFone Systems has revealed a new counter top payment terminal that accepts magnetic stripe, EMV chip, contactless card and NFC mobile transactions.

According to VeriFone, the “H5000” is designed to succeed the Artema Hybrid terminal from Hypercom, which Verifone acquired in August. The device features one card reader slot that accommodates all card types - EMV chip, contactless and magnetic stripe - and an integrated NFC reader for mobile payments and value added services. Other features include a PIN pad, color screen, 32-bit ARM11 400MHz processor, graphical user interface and optional printer.
