Emirates NBD rolls out PayPass watch

Emirates NBD announced the launch of the Middle East and Levant’s first wrist watch equipped with MasterCard PayPass technology, according to Trade Arabia.

The contactless payment feature provides consumers with an alternative to cash for small ticket purchases. Shoppers can tap their new watch on PayPass-enabled terminals at checkout to make a credit card purchase at MasterCard PayPass merchants worldwide.


Emirates NBD and MasterCard developed this watch in collaboration with LAKS GmbH, an Austrian watchmaker and Austria Card, a supplier of smart cards and personalization services in Central and Eastern Europe. This Emirates NBD MasterCard PayPass Watch is being issued as a supplementary device to MasterCard credit cards.

Nokia is launching a campaign to educate consumers in the United Arab Emirates on the benefits of using NFC technology in mobile devices.

The first of its kind in the UAE, the campaign will kick off with the installation of NFC-enabled posters at the VOX cinema in the Mall of the Emirates from Thursday to Saturday. All Nokia N9 smart phone users will be able to tap the posters to receive free cinema tickets, refreshments and the latest movie schedules from VOX cinema, according to Nokia.

Laks has announced the commercial launch of its watch2pay contactless-enabled wristwatch in the UK.

Equipped with MasterCard’s PayPass technology, the watch can be used to make contactless purchases of up to £15 in more than 70,000 UK retailers now accepting PayPass payments.

The Emirates Identity Authority announced the test launch of the registration e-form on its web site for the national ID card. Applicants will be able to avoid lines at registration centers by using the online service to fill ID forms, pay fees and get an appointment for biometric screening, according to TechZone360.com

DeviceFidelity and SpringCard have unveiled moneto, a multiplatform mobile wallet solution for iPhone and Android users.

Much like DeviceFidelity’s In2Pay solution, moneto relies on a protective iPhone case equipped with an NFC-enabled microSD card. The moneto mobile wallet is powered by MasterCard PayPass technology and linked to a reloadable MasterCard prepaid card to enable contactless mobile purchases wherever PayPass is accepted.

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has announced the launch of its Cep-T Cüzdan NFC mobile wallet application on BlackBerry Bold 9900 smart phones.

Turkcell subscribers with NFC-enabled Bold 9900s can now use the mobile wallet service to make contactless payments at any MasterCard PayPass-enabled point of sale across Turkey, as well as abroad.
