French take a lead in mobile payments

According to the UK-based Financial Times, the French may be among the first to roll out nationwide an NFC-based mobile phone payments system. Two years worth of consumer trials have proven that NFC does work, the publication says.

Several big French retail chains are scheduled to equip checkouts capable of processing contactless payments, including NFC-enabled phones, and mobile manufacturers are set to begin shipping NFC phones this autumn.
