Citibank Singapore trials NFC

Citibank Singapore partnered with Visa and M1, a mobile operator, to deploy a three-month near field communication pilot in Singapore, according tot he E-Commerce Journal.

The trial will started in May and will include 300 Citi M1 Platinum Visa cardholders. Participants will be given a Nokia 6212 classic handset. Participants of the experiment will be enabled to make purchases of up to $66 at more than 750 merchants by waving the NFC-enabled mobile phones over a contactless reader at the point of sale.

Oracle has released a new version of Oracle Retail Point-of-Service that aims to increase security, operational efficiency and functionality in part by integrating biometrics.

Oracle partnered with DigitalPersonal to add integrated biometrics to the POS package. Users of the software will login using their fingerprint, which will replace the need for PINs or passwords. This feature intends to reduce fraud by eliminating the possibility of unauthorized employees using a manager ID or swipe card to access the POS and approve overrides.

German bank, Sparkasse will pilot contactless payments for its bank credit card users, reports Venture Village.

Locations in Hannover, Braunschweig and Wolfsburg will be some of the first for the trial, which begins in April. More than 1.3 million customers will receive the new bank cards complete with contactless functionality.
