MasterCard: PayPass 50 million issued

MasterCard Worldwide announced the issuance of the 50 millionth MasterCard PayPass card or device, as of the fourth quarter of 2008. In the last year this more than doubles the number of cards and devices in circulation around the world.

PayPass is designed to provide a convenient payment alternative to cash. Consumers just swipe a card or even sign a receipt when making purchases of $25 or below. They just need to tap their PayPass-enabled devices on the readers in the more than 141,000 participating merchant locations worldwide. [end]

MasterCard, mFoundry partner to expand mobile payments

MasterCard and mFoundry have announced a partnership to enable more banks and credit unions around the world to offer customers contactless mobile payments.

The collaboration will combine MasterCard’s PayPass technology with mFoundry’s mobile financial services platform, which is used by more than 560 U.S. banks and credit unions. Turkcell subscribers with NFC-enabled Bold 9900s can now use the mobile wallet service to make contactless payments at any MasterCard PayPass-enabled point of sale across Turkey, as well as abroad.

MasterCard PayPass transactions on the rise in Australia

MasterCard Australia has announced that more than 1 million contactless PayPass transactions were recorded during the month of August.

According to Insider Retailing, this marks the first time that PayPass “Tap and Go” payments have surpassed the 1 million transaction milestone since the technology was introduced in Australia several years ago, indicating growing acceptance of contactless payments.

YESpay, YES-wallet deliver cloud-based NFC payments

The UK’s YESpay International and YES-wallet.com have teamed up to build an NFC-enabled cloud-based mobile payments platform.

By integrating the YES-wallet Pouch digital wallet with YESpay EMBOSS payment service, the companies will provide a platform that encompasses e-Money, pre-paid and gift-card payments based on Visa PayWave and MasterCard PayPass contactless standards.

Results revealed from MTA, MasterCard PayPass pilot
