Visa showcases future of money in Middle East

Visa highlighted several overall trends in the payments industry, including the convergence of electronic payments and mobile phones, at a briefing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Also mentioned were the continued growth of the internet as a payment channel, the expansion of electronic payments into new acceptance locations such as transit and vending machines and the need to extend electronic payments to the millions of un-banked or under-banked consumers around the world.

The company also demonstrated a variety of transactions using the contactless Visa payWave technology, paying a fare at a transit turnstile, buying products in vending machines and completing a purchase at point-of-sale terminals. Mobile payment services such as mobile offers, alerts and money transfer, using a NFC-enabled handset, also were showcased.

Barnes International announced that its updated Visa GPR Test module now complies with the latest version of Visa’s Global Personalization Requirements.

The updated test tool will offer evaluation of a chip product to ensure it meets industry and payment scheme certification standards. This reduces a product’s time to market as the chip is aligned to Visa Specifications throughout the development life cycle and before applying for official Visa approval.

Visa Europe has announced that NFC-enabled smart phones from Samsung, LG and Research In Motion have been certified for use with Visa payWave, Visa’s mobile application for payments at the point-of-sale.

The UK’s YESpay International and YES-wallet.com have teamed up to build an NFC-enabled cloud-based mobile payments platform.

By integrating the YES-wallet Pouch digital wallet with YESpay EMBOSS payment service, the companies will provide a platform that encompasses e-Money, pre-paid and gift-card payments based on Visa PayWave and MasterCard PayPass contactless standards.

Visa Europe has announced that six of Germany’s leading banks are launching Visa payWave contactless services in 2012.

BW Bank, comdirect, DKB, Landesbank Berlin, TARGOBANK and Volkswagen Bank have all confirmed their plans to roll out payWave technology by the middle of next year.
