Oberthur, NXP complete MIFARE-NFC compatibility tests

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 in News

Smart card supplier Oberthur Technologies and semiconductor company NXP say they have completed interoperability tests allowing Oberthur’s Opera FlyBuy NFC SIM card to be used in conjunction with NXP’s PN544 NFC controller to design NFC mobile devices compatible with MIFARE Classic.

With its multi-application and remote management capabilities, Opera FlyBuy NFC SIM cards offer flexibility to mobile network operators and the convenience of contactless technology to their customers. With a MIFARE-compatible SIM card on the mobile phone, anyone traveling from Beijing to London will have the convenience of using transport services where MIFARE technology has been deployed, said Oberthur’s Xavier Drilhon.

NXP says its MIFARE platforms are the most widely deployed contactless technology globally, particularly for public transport, event ticketing and access management. Also, about 75% of contactless cards used in transport networks are based on MIFARE technology. [end]
