Japanese financial services giant tests Mobile MasterCard in Tokyo

Orico, a Japanese consumer credit and cobranded card issuer, is wrapping up an NFC test of Mobile MasterCard PayPass that was launched last November that lets customers use their phone to make credit and debit transactions at any merchant equipped with a PayPass-compatible contactless payments terminal.

For the trial, mobile network operator KDDI provided the NFC-enabled mobile phones and SIMs. Orico was responsible for the issuance of the PayPass application and French smart card provider Gemalto provided issuance and application technical support.

MasterCard announced that it intends to present its contactless payment cards to Azerbaijani financial market in 2012.

According to abc.az, MasterCard is in negotiation with the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, as well as Azerbaijan private banks regarding the implementation of projects on non-cash payments and the introduction of contactless cards for payments for applications in transit, dining and entertainment.
