Hypercom names new Asia Pacific managing director

Hypercom Corp., a Scottsdale, Ariz. manufacturer of electronic payment devices, has appointed Jacques-Herve Maupin, formerly with Oberthur Technologies, as its managing director of the Asia Pacific region. His responsibilities involve directing and driving Hypercom’s sales, service and support throughout the area.

He takes over for TK Cheung, who has been appointed to the newly-created position of vice president, quality and security. Besides Oberthur, Maupin for the past six years has held positions with Cap Gemini Asia and Telesystemes. He also served as IT consultant within the France Telecom group. [end] 

Hypercom USA, a payment terminal manufacturer and secure software developer, has announced that it has formally changed its corporate name to Equinox Payments LLC.

In addition to selling new products under the Equinox brand, the company will continue to manufacture, sell and support all payment terminals and peripherals previously offered in the U.S. by Hypercom, including the T4200 countertop, M4200 mobile and L5000 customer-activated product families, as well as all software, terminal management systems and other services related to these products.

SmartMetric announced it has leased a manufacturing plant in Buenos Aires, Argentina where it plans to manufacture fingerprint activated smart cards. Oracle has released a new version of Oracle Retail Point-of-Service that aims to increase security, operational efficiency and functionality in part by integrating biometrics.

Oracle partnered with DigitalPersonal to add integrated biometrics to the POS package. Users of the software will login using their fingerprint, which will replace the need for PINs or passwords. This feature intends to reduce fraud by eliminating the possibility of unauthorized employees using a manager ID or swipe card to access the POS and approve overrides.

Safety science company UL has acquired Melbourne, Australia-based Witham Laboratories, a global provider of payment software and hardware security reviews.

The acquisition expands UL’s reach into the payment card security assessment field and will enable it to provide security reviews of payment terminal, software and infrastructure.
