Confidex limited use contactless ticket wins Frost & Sullivan innovation award

A limited use contactless ticket by Finnish company Confidex Ltd. and designed for public transit agencies, has won the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation of the Year Award in RFID technology.

The tickets are designed to be flexible in public transportation applications, allowing for single, return, daily, weekly, monthly and tourist tickets. [end]

Gemalto thinks 'BIG', wins BearingPoint innovation management award

Gemalto has won the BearingPoint innovation management award – the Agile Innovation Award – for its think tank initiative Business Innovation Garage (BIG).

BIG provides Gemalto’s 10,000 employees company-wide with a structured process to submit and manage any innovative ideas they have. Ideas covering range of fields – from communication, payment, transport, Internet access, and machine-to-machine application – are systematically challenged, audited, developed and eventually selectively turned into incubation cells.

Boardwalk looks to NFC for mobile ticketing

Boardwalk Inc., a Tokyo-based ticketing solution provider, has announced that it will begin NFC research and development for ticket-related applications.

Boardwalk provides a mobile ticketing solution based on Osaifu-Keitai mobile wallet technology. According to Boardwalk, the Felica-compliant service turns the phone itself into a contactless electronic ticket that can be used in place of a paper ticket. The so-called “Ticket Board” solution also provides QR codes for those without an Osaifu-Keitai-enabled phone.
