UK sandwich shop goes contactless

Pret A Manger, The High Street sandwich shop chain, has announced the deployment of contactless payment facilities to its customers.

The fast food chain announced plans to introduce contactless point-of-sale systems and hardware to 171 UK stores following a successful pilot in seven London locations. The deployment is scheduled for completion in April 2009.

Superdrug launches contactless payment at more than 50 stores

Superdrug, one of Britain’s largest beauty and health retailers, has introduced contactless payment for its in-store customers, according to Retail Gazette.

Created by Streamline and Visa Europe, the contactless system will enable customers to make payments of up to £15 (approx. USD $23) by simply waving their contactless bank card at the more than 50 participating Superdrug stores in London and Liverpool.

Inside Secure has launched a free, open-source NFC protocol stack for Google’s new Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” mobile operating system.
