Intermarche selects Hypercom for Payez mobile trial

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Hypercom Corp. announced that Intermarche, one of France’s top retailers with almost 1,500 retail outlets, has installed Hypercom’s Wymix PIN pad with contactless reader as part of the Payez Mobile trial for NFC payments in two test sales outlets in Caen and Strasbourg.

The Payez Mobile trial was launched a year ago by seven banks and three mobile operators in France, part of the Association Européenne Payez Mobile. The upshot from the trial is that there is a significant consumer interest in payments by mobile phone.

“Our top priority is to create the best shopping experience for our consumers and we are doing that with Hypercom’s Wymix contactless PIN pad,” said Hugues Poingant, Intermarché operators in charge of payment for Les Mousquetaires, Intermarche.

Hypercom’s Wymix PIN pad incorporates a chip card and magnetic stripe reader designed for integration with cash register systems at the point of sale. Already used at many thousands of points of sale throughout France, the Wymix has recently been upgraded to support payment with contactless cards or NFC-enabled phones. [end]
