HID, Dynamic Card Solutions partner for instant EMV issuance

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

HID Global and Dynamic Card Solutions (DCS), announced a partnership to deliver an EMV instant issuance solution that enables financial institutions to issue highly personalized non-embossed credit and debit cards. Multiple issuers of Visa branded cards are already using this solution.

By combining DCS’ CardWizard software and FCP 20/20 flat card printer, powered by HID Global’s High Definition Printing technology, financial institutions can now instantly issue secure, flat-panel EMV cards that function just like traditional embossed cards, but without raised numbers and lettering. With 98% of worldwide transactions being processed electronically, the need for embossed characters on payment cards has virtually been eliminated.

HID Global’s printing technology in the FCP 20/20 produces a reverse image on the underside of high definition printing film, which is then fused to the card surface, resulting in cards with photo-quality, continuous-tone images that replicate the look of litho-printed cards. In addition, the film conforms to ridges and an indentation formed by embedded electronics and makes the cards tamper-evident and highly resistant to wear and abrasion.

Because the non-embossed cards are personalized on-demand, customers can select from multiple background images at the branch or store location when they request a card. With such flexibility, financial institutions can expand their marketing potential with sophisticated affinity or loyalty programs. The card background, cardholder name, card number, expiration date and the three-digit security code on the back are then simultaneously printed to produce a highly customized card.

The flat card solution will be on display at CARTES & IDentification 2008 in Paris Nov. 4-6 at DCS’ stand 4R053. DCS will be personalizing dual interface (contact and contactless) EMV cards using the FCP 20/20 flat card printer. [end]
