Motorola tapped for Norway’s biometric kiosks
Motorola has been chosen to supply the enrollment kiosks to the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Police Computing and Material Service for Norway’s biometric passport and visa program, according to an article from The Financial. The kiosks from Motorola, called Bio-Enrol Stations, will enable Norway’s agencies to enroll the 500,000 passport applicants and 150,000 visa applicants they receive annually.
In additional efforts to quickly and easily enroll the many applicants beyond the large-scale implementation of the kiosks, they have been designed to allow people regardless of language fluency and literacy level to easily navigate them via pictograms.
The contract with Motorola follows a successful trial of the technology that saw eleven kiosks setup in Norway with another five in embassies abroad. The implementation of the stations began this month and is expected to be finished by June 2009
