LEGIC participates in NFC pilot in Switzerland

An NFC pilot project by contactless smart card producer LEGIC, telecommunications provider Swisscom and vending machine operator Selecta is providing customers an easier way to pay for refreshments with their NFC-enabled phones.

The phones are being tested in Swisscom’s buildings in Bern, Switzerland. Swisscom staff use the mobile phones to get chilled drinks and snacks from Selecta vending machines. The cashless payments are made possible by LEGIC’s card-in-card solution.

Swisscom is also looking at further development of SIM cards as hosts for NFC applications. It is actively engaged in the development of new services and working with mobile phone manufacturers to bring more NFC phones quickly to market.

HID Global has announced the successful completion of the world’s first university pilot of NFC smart phones carrying digital keys.

First announced in September, the pilot involved a select group of students and staff at Arizona State University using NFC-enabled smart phones equipped with HID’s Secure Identity Object (SIO) Technology. Oracle integrates biometrics into retail POS

Oracle has released a new version of Oracle Retail Point-of-Service that aims to increase security, operational efficiency and functionality in part by integrating biometrics.

Oracle partnered with DigitalPersonal to add integrated biometrics to the POS package. Users of the software will login using their fingerprint, which will replace the need for PINs or passwords. This feature intends to reduce fraud by eliminating the possibility of unauthorized employees using a manager ID or swipe card to access the POS and approve overrides.

Radio Frequency Systems, a manufacturer of contactless smart card technology, will use the LEGIC advant 4000 chip generation to create new reader modules for access control applications.
