G&D's NFC-enabled SIM card interoperable with Venyon's TSM services

Full commercial deployment of near field communication has taken another step forward with the announcement from Giesecke & Devrient and over the air provider Venyon of successful interoperability tests between the companies’ two components.

Trusted Service Manager (TSM) offerings provided by Venyon, a joint venture of G&D and Nokia, enable mobile operators and service providers to securely issue their applications and services on NFC-enabled mobile phones via the mobile network. The interoperability tests involving G&D’s NFC-enabled ProxSIM cards and Venyon’s TSM services confirmed that both components comply with the necessary industry standards, such as those of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, GlobalPlatform and JavaCard.

“The interoperability tests were simply the next logical step in our joint efforts to demonstrate to participating organizations, such as mobile network operators and financial institutions, that the technology is ready to be deployed,” said Klaus Vedder, head of G&D’s telecommunications division.

“The NFC ecosystem comprises multiple industry verticals, new technologies, applications and services, all targeted to provide added value to consumers,” said Venyon CEO Lauri Pesonen. “Interoperability is one of the essential cornerstones needed to realize the full potential of NFC-based services. Our cooperation with G&D…takes us that important step further towards ensuring that our TSM services are truly interoperable with NFC-enabled multi-application SIM cards.”

G&D and Venyon are currently taking part in several NFC pilot projects, including ones in Turkey and the UK. [end]

GSA implements cloud-based physical access system

The General Services Administration (GSA) has implemented its first cloud-based physical access system at the Neal Smith Federal Building in Des Moines, Iowa.

The GSA contracted with BridgePoint Systems to utilize its TrustAlert Physical Access Control Systems. BridgePoint partnered with EmbarkIT to install the system, which replaced the GSA’s 10-year-old legacy system. The system leverages the GSA’s Kansas City, Missouri-based WAN and remote IT infrastructure, which allows the building to shrink its carbon footprint.

SML launches 'ViziT' solutions for apparel, partners with TAGSYS and Nedap Retail

SML Group Ltd announced the launch of its new “ViziT” RFID item visibility solutions for the retail apparel and item tracking applications.
