RBS tests PayPass in London Black Cabs

The Royal Bank of Scotland has laucnhed a pilot of MasterCard’s PayPass contactless payments technology in London black cabs, according to a Finextra.com story. Contactless cardholders will be able to pay for fares of £10 or less by tapping their MasterCard PayPass card against specially equipped payment readers in 25 London-based cabs.

Half of people carry less than £10 and more would take taxis if they could pay with a contactless card, according to the bank’s research. Also, 77% of drivers said accepting payment cards helped them meet customer demand and 78% agreed that payments cards are faster and easier.


Barclaycard teamed with London-based Computer Cab last year to reveal a contactless payments terminal that can be installed in taxis. It uses Visa’s payWave technology.
