ASK’s inlay passes ICAO test

Monday, July 7, 2008

ASK announced that its SPID inlay has passed the ICAO PIRA International tests.

PIRA’s independent laboratories have built up a range of chemical, physical and security testing services and in 2005 expanded these into testing of electronic identification devices. ASK had requested third-party endorsement that e-passports met and exceeded the durability standards defined by the latest ICAO technical reports.

PIRA ran the ICAO tests and added sequences beyond the minimum requirements in order to ensure optimum durability. As a result, the booklet embedded with the ASK SPID inlay withstood 20,000 ICAO bending cycles without any failures. Typically, the silver antenna directly printed onto the substrate offers mechanical characteristics and adds physical security to the document.

The SPID inlays are a range of e-passport inlays and e-covers. They are designed to address the various needs of government bodies and national printing houses for electronic passport needs. SPID is available with different materials such as paper, Teslin and polycarbonate in order to fit with market requirements. The SPID inlays are manufactured in a secure environment into ASK’s facilities in the south of France. [end]

Barnes International announced that its updated Visa GPR Test module now complies with the latest version of Visa’s Global Personalization Requirements.

The updated test tool will offer evaluation of a chip product to ensure it meets industry and payment scheme certification standards. This reduces a product’s time to market as the chip is aligned to Visa Specifications throughout the development life cycle and before applying for official Visa approval.
