Salto secures Syria, UK hotels

One of the largest luxury hotel operators in the Middle East and a small hotel in West Kent, England, have selected Oiartzun, Spain-based Salto access control technology to secure their guest rooms.

Both the Ebla Cham Palace, a 500-room, five-star hotel in Syria, and the 10-room Brew House Hotel in Royal Tunbridge Wells, West Kent, England, made use of Salto’s XS4 access control system and contactless technology to provide wireless door lock capabilities.


The XS4 system requires no hard wiring while providing the wireless networked locking solution designed around electronics that use distributed intelligence to pass information between microprocessors in the electronic handle set and the key card.

This enabled the XS4 electronic handle sets to be easily added to the Syria hotel’s existing locks and doors, turning them into access control doors without compromising security or control.

It also allows the hotel to benefit from the Salto Virtual Network (SVN), which enables locks and key cards to be updated, restricted or deleted remotely and access profiles to be changed rapidly. With Salto wall readers linked in to the handle sets, the access control system can be expanded even further into the hotel at any time while still allowing for online access provision wherever needed.

At the Brew House, the installation involved electronic smart locks in all the hotel’s bedrooms as well as service rooms. To control employee access, an online wall reader utilizing SVN was linked to the handle sets, spreading the access control system further into the building while still allowing for online access provision where needed. This access control system was installed by Salto’s business partner, Tonbridge-based Styletech Architectural Hardware.

Like the Syria install, SVN allows the Brew House Hotel to read, receive and write information to and from its smart staff ID cards, eliminating the need to replace locks if security is breached due to the loss or theft of a staff ID card. In addition, SVN’s built-in audit trail facility can also be used as a management tool to check staff’s arrival and departure times. [end] 

University College Dublin has implemented a smart access control solution from Spanish company SALTO Systems in its new Roebuck Castle student facility.

Providing wireless, real time access control is at the heart of the SALTO system. Any number of doors can be equipped with the solution at a than a conventional wired access control system and its battery power consumption is close to that of standard battery powered electronic lock.
