UK based 'EAT' installs integrated contactless payments system
UK-based food retailer “EAT” has installed an contactless payment system at its point-of-sale counter, enabling customers to pay for transactions of 10 pounds or less on a newly-installed card reader. The card reader features an LCD screen to make it easy for customers to see their payment information. Barclaycard Business will act as merchant provider.
James McDonald, head of contactless department at Barclaycard Business said, “The solution has opened up the doors to contactless for a huge number of retailers who have their own e-POS systems. The technology can process payments in less than half a second, enabling retailers to serve more customers and reduce queues at busy times.”
Starting with the retailer’s Moorgate branch, the system is likely to be installed at the other 24 branches in London. EAT reportedly gets 350,000 customers per week with transaction value of less than 5 pounds.
